Our DNA

We are a Christian church serving the city of Milwaukee since 1998. Called by God as a church for the city, our members represent the multi-cultural and multi-ethnic nature of the urban context. While our services are in English, our life together is often spiced with words, foods, and customs that represent the diversity of people that God has drawn to our church.

At Straightway Vineyard we seek to live life in “reality mode”. That means we shy away from purely religious forms and try to apply our faith in practical ways in daily life. This approach is reflected in everything we do, from the way we talk about God and teach the Bible, to our casual dress at worship services, and the simplicity of our meeting facilities. We also believe that God has called us to be a people with a mission, so that every member is encouraged to be involved in ministry. We’re guided in this by a strong commitment to the teachings of the Bible, and an expectant openness to the leading of God’s Holy Spirit.  We are a people of “the Word and the Spirit”, and “everyone gets to play”. In addition, God has also given us a heart to minister to children as the next generation of Godly leaders for His church. This love for children and our passion for mission are reflected in our efforts locally and internationally through our ministries in Senegal, Africa and Andra Pradesh, India.

Our Beliefs

The Bible is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. However, since the Bible is a diverse collection of narrative stories, poetry, law, and letters, it is helpful to summarize its teaching in a concise form that can be comprehended by both those deeply rooted in the Church and those who have little exposure to the Bible. This is the historical function of the ancient church creeds in the first 400 years of Christ-centered faith.

Every community of faith has two major obligations in regards to its faith, namely absolute faithfulness to the Word of God, and sensitivity to the world in which they live. This means that the Vineyard movement must express the historical, biblical, orthodox Christian beliefs that we hold in common with all Christians, and the particular doctrines that are our distinctive voice, in terms that are relevant to 21st century Christians.

Our Statement of Faith is based on the conviction that the kingdom of God is the central theological motif that gives definition to all that we believe. It is a “kingdom of God” centered theology. This statement is our best current understanding of the Bible from that kingdom perspective.
